I just issued a piece titled "Why Most Voters Shouldn't Vote," and it has evoked a great response. Virtually all the emails have been positive, by the way, but I nevertheless would like to buttress its thesis. So I'm providing a couple of links to Sean Hannity's "Man on the Street" interviews, wherein he asks everyday folks simple questions about politics and American history. The ignorance is staggering.
Part one is here.
It opens with Hannity talking to his assistant, "Flipper," and asking her a few questions. Staggeringly, she thought that we won our independence in the Civil War and that Lincoln might have written the Declaration of Independence.
Oh, I should also menti0n that she's peddling a book, which, just as staggeringly, means she knows how to write. I don't know what her book treats, but I'm sure it's a very informative read. I'll have to pass, however, as I'm currently tackling deeper, more intellectual works, such as Green Eggs and ham.
Part two is here.
The last respondent is a kindergarten teacher who thought that we won our independence from France in WWI. In all fairness, though, while history may not be her bailiwick, I'm sure she has taken "education" classes and knows all about tolerance, diversity, multiculturalism, unity, feminism, and anthropogenic global warming. I'm sure she also understands that Martin Luther King is the father of our country.
It's comforting to know that tomorrow's voters are in such capable hands.
Beam me up, Scotty.
