Surprising many a political prognosticator, John McCain has announced that his running mate will be 44-year-old Sarah Palin, Alaska's first female governor.  Honestly, I can't say I'm surprised, as I told someone just a week ago that she could be the choice.  The question is, is she a good choice?

Jimmy Carter Calls Barack Obama a "Boy"

In this video, former Democrat president Jimmy Carter calls Barack Obama a "black boy."  To be fair, Carter uttered the comment while speaking of Obama's youth and upbringing, the time of the senator's boyhood.  Yet it still bears mention.  After all, could you imagine how the mainstream media would pile on if a conservative had used such characterization?  Would they be as fair as I have with been with Carter?

It’s interesting to hear the euphemisms bandied about in campaigns. After Barack Obama’s and John McCain’s appearance a week ago at Saddleback Church, for instance, the former’s ardent supporters were as effusive in their praise as ever. His stammering and copious “uhs” weren’t signs of a befuddled and muddled mind, but of “thoughtfulness” and “nuanced” thinking.

If you listened to the mainstream media, you’d think conservatives have a monopoly on hypocrisy. If a figure has espoused traditional morality even just once at some point in the past and then falls from grace, our press will descend on him like vultures. You can be a Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy or Gerry Studds, but woe betide the Larry Craigs, Mark Foleys, and Ted Haggards of the world, for justice is mine, saith the New York Times.

Sixty years before Christ's birth, great orator and statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero watched plaintively as his republic faded before his eyes and Julius Caesar became the first Roman emperor. As today, some felt betrayed by their leaders, but Cicero knew that the people themselves were ultimately responsible for Rome's slide into empire, saying, "Do not blame Caesar, blame the people of Rome who have ... rejoiced in their loss of freedom ... who hail him when he speaks in the Forum of ... "more security, more living fatly at the expense of the industrious.' Julius was always an ambitious villain, but he is only one man."

Howard Dean: Republicans the "White Party"

So Howard "Dumbo" Dean is at it again.  In the interview excerpt above, he calls the Republican Party the "white party" while touting the inclusiveness of the Democrats. It's really amazing that the Democratic National Committee allows this buffoon to be their standard bearer.  I mean, he really is the gift that keeps on giving.   

Guiness World Record: Worst Mouse Plague

This isn't a new story anymore, but the footage is so unbelievable that it's worth posting.  It is of the Australian mouse plague, a disaster of biblical proportions.  It really makes you realize that you have to count your blessings.
