Alexander's Essay – August 20, 2009

Media Blackout
"Equal and exact justice to all men..." --Thomas Jefferson

Editor's Note: PG suggested -- this essay contains graphic descriptions of a brutal crime.

In 1775, John Adams wrote, "There is in human nature a resentment of injury, and indignation against wrong, a love of truth and a veneration of virtue ... if the people are capable of understanding, seeing and feeling the differences between true and false, right and wrong, virtue and vice..."

Adams understood that a shared penchant for justice and virtue is essential to liberty, and depends upon the ability of people to discern between right and wrong.

Today, it is evident to every astute social scientist (and most anyone with common sense) that among definable American subcultures the capacity for distinguishing between right and wrong is severely diminished.

The origin of these deteriorating standards for justice and virtue is rooted in the dissolution of the family, and the failure of our places of worship and our schools to instill those values necessary for self-government -- self-government being the foundation of family-government and that being the foundation of social responsibility.

U.S. urban centers, and to a lesser extent suburban and rural areas, are now home to generations of sociopaths who do not value your life, simply because they do not value their own.

Making matters worse, the MSM perpetuates a virtual blackout of news regarding select sociopaths, while trumpeting allegations and speculations of others. This results in a distorted popular understanding of the extent of the social degradation around us.

Three years ago (March 2006), the Leftmedia spent a year relentlessly convicting in the court of public opinion three white Duke University lacrosse players for a "hate crime" -- the alleged gang rape of a black woman named Crystal Gail Mangum. Millions of dollars in defense-lawyer fees later, it turns out that there was no evidence and that Mangum was a liar. The real victims were, in fact, the accused men: David Evans, Reade Seligmann and Colin Finnerty. (All charges were dropped, but there has been no apology yet from 88 Duke professors who jumped on the bandwagon, condemning Evans, Seligmann and Finnerty in an open letter before the first day of their trial.)

Four weeks ago, Barack Hussein Obama interrupted a live media propaganda confab promoting his administration's most critical national initiative (nationalizing health care) in order to accuse a white Cambridge, MA, police officer, James Crowley, of "acting stupidly" for arresting Obama's black friend, Henry Gates. That accusation was followed by similar knee-jerk pronouncements of racism by the black governor of Massachusetts and the black mayor of Cambridge. Under such heavy-handed political and media pressure, all charges against Gates were dropped.

The Gates' story dominated the national media headlines for a couple weeks, until it was determined that the officer's actions were, in fact, justified. Obama attempted to make amends by tossing back a few beers with the Gates and Crowley in the Rose Garden, but BO offered no public apology. (Narcissists do not apologize, they just reinterpret the facts.)

This week, there is a trial underway which is racially charged, but, unless you were reading The Patriot back in 2007, chances are you have not heard of this one since it involves a savage black-on-white crime, rather than MSM feeding frenzy accusations of white-on-black crimes.

Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom
I am referring to the brutal torture, mutilation and murder of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom by four black men in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In the event you were not a reader in '07, allow me to recount this horrendous incident ... because you won't see or hear it from any MSM news outlets.

On 6 January 2007, Channon (age 21) and Christopher (age 23) were out for a Saturday dinner date, after which Channon called her mom to report that they were on the way to visit friends. But Channon and Christopher never arrived at their friends' house -- nor returned home.

The next day, the mutilated and burned remains of Chris Newsom were found along a railroad track. Two days later, Channon's mutilated body was recovered from a trash bin.

Channon and Chris were in Channon's Toyota 4-Runner when they were carjacked. They were taken to a nearby house, brutally gang-raped, mutilated and then murdered. They were subjected to lengthy torture in each other's presence.

Newsom was raped, his genitals were cut off, and then taken to the railroad tracks where he was shot execution-style. The perpetrators soaked his body with an accelerant and burned his body.

Christian was kept alive for a while longer, repeatedly raped, mutilated, had cleaning solution poured down her throat in an attempt to destroy DNA evidence, and then stuffed inside a trash can where she suffocated to death.

This appalling attack is more than a case study in sociopathic evil. It is a case study about which stories the MSM headlines and which they do not. Yes, there are some 17,000 murders committed in the U.S. each year, but this double murder was clearly far more barbaric, far more monstrous, than most.

Regrettably, there is nothing new about the racial aspect of this story, which may explain why it was not national news. Although blacks represent just 12 percent of the U.S. population, black perpetrators are convicted by a jury of their peers in more than half of all murder and manslaughter cases. Additionally, per-capita black-on-white crime is far more prevalent than the inverse.

The underlying social factors contributing to such racially unbalanced crime statistics have been delineated by many conservative black leaders and academicians. However, their solutions -- most notably promoting family unity, faith-based programs, better schools and individual responsibility and accountability, contradict leftist political objectives, which seek to maintain black folks' status as wards of the state. (The modern Democrat implementation of a plantation system.)

The Accused
Charged in the torture/murder of Chanon and Christopher were Eric Boyd, Letalvis Cobbins, Lemaricus Davidson, George Thomas and Vanessa Coleman.

In April 2008, Boyd was convicted in federal court of being an accessory after the fact, but the MSM was too busy fawning over the candidacy of Barack Obama to report that conviction. (Boyd's case is on appeal.)

"One down. Four to go," said Channon's father, Gary Christian.

He and Channon's mother, Deena have been present at all the proceedings. "We do this for Channon," said Deena. "We've been through the worst. We and the Newsoms have lost our children. We can endure anything."

This week, the trial of a second defendant, Letalvis Cobbins, is underway, but it's safe to say that the prosecution of this defendant will pass without a satellite news-link truck anywhere in sight.

I draw your attention to this case not only to mourn the murder of this young couple, but also to call attention to a despicable political double standard which includes the MSM's complicity in advancing that standard.

In 1998, three white men in Jasper, Texas, beat a black man, James Byrd, then chained him to the back of a pickup truck and dragged him three miles to his death. Not surprisingly, Byrd's murder received national media attention -- as it should.

Clearly, hate was a motivating factor in the Jasper case, but it was also a motivating factor in Knoxville, though not a "hate crime" as defined by federal law. So, why do white-on-black hate crimes invariably result in a media feeding frenzy, while black-on-white hate crimes receive nary a mention?

What about the double standard when it comes to race-hustling poverty pimps like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton (who fabricated the Tawana Brawley rape hoax)? The only difference in racists such as Jackson and Sharpton and those in the KKK is that the latter are not Leftmedia celebs.

To that end, my colleague Walter Williams posited this query: "What have we heard from the NAACP, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and others who rushed to judgment and outrage as they condemned whites in the cases of the 'Jena 6' and Don Imus when he referred to the Rutgers ladies basketball team as 'nappy-headed ho's'? Where were the national news media and public officials? You can bet the rent money that, were the victims black and the perpetrators white, Knoxville would have been inundated with TV crews, with Jackson, Sharpton and other civil rights spokesmen and politicians from both parties condemning racism, possibly blaming it all on George Bush..."

As for the defendants in this case, Knox County has already paid in excess of $350 thousand to prosecute and defend these monsters. Based on the eyewitness account of defendant Vanessa Coleman, the question before Cobbins' jury, and those yet to be empanelled for the other defendants, is not one of guilt or innocence, but guilty of what charges.

Those found guilty will be treated to either life imprisonment, with all entitlements, or life on death row for maybe a couple decades -- all at a cost to taxpayers of more than $100 thousand per year per convict.

Deena and Gary Christian at trial
Martin Luther King, in his "Letter from a Birmingham Jail, proclaimed, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

The MSM blackout of this crime is a grave injustice.

To the families and friends of Channon and Christopher, we share your grief and will continue this vigil with you until justice is served.

Semper Vigilo, Fortis, Paratus et Fidelis!

Once again you have it right. I enjoyed your appearance on The Savage Nation today.

The racial nonsense that we are inundated with stems primarily from University and College Campuses. A filmmaker recently documented this in his film Indoctrinate U:

Think of just one small aspect of the dangers of what the race-mongers foist upon us: Racial profiling. Any sensible person would consider this common-sense investigative technique but ACLU vermin exploit the race-mongers' contention for the sake of (as Selwyn indicates) greed.

How ironic that, in my first flight after the tragedy of 9/11 I was selected for secondary screening (randomly, of course) and was "wanded" by a person of Arab descent. Has society become this insane?

I applaud Julia for pasting Mark Alexander's entire Media Blackout essay. I am a subscriber to The Patriot Post and had already read it, but those of you who haven't should and I recommend the free subscription to Alexander's brilliant pieces.

"How ironic that, in my first flight after the tragedy of 9/11 I was selected for secondary screening (randomly, of course) and was "wanded" by a person of Arab descent. Has society become this insane?"

You seem to be arguing that the security officer had no right to select you for screening because you do not look like an arab. Whereas you have decided that the security officer did look like an arab. Do you get how ridiculous that is? Leaving aside the many many problems with security theatre, you do realise that if you decide that only people with "arab" names and big black beards need searching the easiest thing in the world is to get white bread or women or asian bombers to walk through. Richard Reed didn't look very arab now did he?

Phillip described being wanded by an Arab security person as "ironic", he did nothing to imply that it was improper.

Remember, reading is fundamental (RIF)

Of course Arabs, whites and Asians are all eligible for scrutiny by security. But how secure are we when we hire Muslims as security personnel or as police officers? Not very.

The ever flowing, refreshing, spring of diversity flows wide and deep in America...ahhhhh, aint it great? Why, I feel empowered every day knowing that we are becoming a more and more diverse country. In fact, I envy my kids who will get to live in this cesspoo....err I mean paradise of multi cultural America. Open borders for me please.

The day right after the Tower of Babel came down should be the goal of every society don't you think. No common language, people could not relate to one another; that is utopia!

To Yoyo,

In observance of our vastly contrasting observations, one of us is a lunatic in need of help.

I will leave it to other observers and commentators at this site decide which of us it is.

Farewell to Edward M. Kennedy, the Lyin' of the Left.

Sweetheart, you and the delightful Richard both imply that muslim, or even people who look like muslim, security guards have no right to wand non-muslim looking flyers. Neither of you have tackled my practical point eg: race based profiling doesn't work or my moral point, race based profiling is wrong. Let's go with the practical AGAIN; if you pick only people who look like stereotypical muslims how easy is it for real terrorists to get through? Even the racially challenged could work out a way to get through that one as Richard Reid did. Secondly, if you decide all muslims are the enemy (as Richard is blatant in implying) how much credibility do you have world wide when you say that your war is NOT a crusade against a particular religious group? How does that help you keep countries with a muslim population on side. Are you really at war with Indonesia, or Malaysia for example? I know that many Americans have limited education about geology or geo-politics but surely self presevation would incline you to being less stupid. BTW I say this as a person who thinks ALL religions are a sign of a deep seated craving for childhood support.

Actually Yoyo, Philip said Arab not muslim is a religion not a racial sub grouping. However, I wanted to respond to your post as I am between classes and have a moment.

1."race based profiling doesn't work "-says who? you?- This is a very controversial subject for sure but there are many a police officer who would swear that profiling works...both black and white. I'm sure I can support this would evidence if you would like.

2."race based profiling is wrong"- Did you say wrong? As in the opposite of right? The one thing I have learned about morals in college is that to the left, everything is relative. Murder is wrong...but abortion is okay cause the mothers career could be hindered or racism is the great white evil...but we need affirmative action to correct it. Please Yoyo...enlighten us with your moral philosophies.

As far as your point about only picking on muslims I would have to agree. However, I don't think either Philip or Richard made that point. Philip said that is was ironic to have a muslim screening him and to some degree it is. Muslims in our society constitute a greater threat risk on average than say a European immigrant. Statistical evidence could testify to that fact. I think Philip rightly agrees that guards should inspect anyone who looks supsiscous but that is was ironic to have an arab screening him.

Walt, forgive my lack of comprehension, but are you mocking my statement? Those two sentences could be interpreted differently and I'm not sure of your intentions. Either way I always enjoy your prospective so please elaborate.

Sorry Shaun, I try not to mock anyone, even the leftists (assuming a civil discourse on their part), it does not seem to enhance anything other than resentment. Sometimes my sarcasm does not propel itself well. My intent was to agree with you and add a historical perspective. We must retain our identity as a nation and culture or we will collapse. The story of the Tower of Babel whether interpreted literally or figuratively has the same moral; heed it we must. Thanks for the kind words my friend.

I guess I made the mistake of using muslim instead of arab as well. Although everyone has an idea of what they mean with the word muslim I am trying to make the distinction in my vocabulary.

Well put Shaun, Selwyn wrote an article a couple years back that puts it quite well.

I apologise if this come out twice, I am more familiar with other comment systems and whenever i push reply I seem to lose them.
First to Richard and Shaun FAIL on several levels.
1. Both of you conflate muslim and arab, My comment mentioning Indonesia and Malaysia was designed to get you past that.
@. racial profiling does not work! the most respected security writer of our time (Schneier) has a good paper on this topic here.

Just because some jumped up ticket collector you know may think it works does not make argument based on your experience any more valid.
BTW the Israeli's are the experts in airport security and they use behavioural analysis not rascial or religious screening.

3. it is a tired and obviously false cannard that people on the left of politics have no morality. Fundies often put it this way, non-chritians of my particular flavour don kno what's wrong or right. If we parse this meme for a second you may see what i mean. If the only reason i behave is because i believe a superior (supernatural or not) will punish me otherwise, then it is obvious I have no real internal conception of right and wrong. Contrarily, if I believe in empathy, fairness and kindness are key factors in a good society then i will approach my behaviour in light of those goals. It's just intellectual and cultural bigotry to thik your conception of a deity is the only source of morality and it is both socially and scientifically stupid.

For the hard of hearing "Whenever you design a security system with two ways through -- an easy way and a hard way -- you invite the attacker to take the easy way. Profile for young Arab males, and you'll get terrorists that are old non-Arab females. This paper looks at the security effectiveness of profiling versus random searching.

If we are going to increase security against terrorism, the young Arab males living in our country are precisely the people we want on our side. Discriminating against them in the name of security is not going to make them more likely to help.

Despite what many people think, terrorism is not confined to young Arab males. Shoe-bomber Richard Reid was British. Germaine Lindsay, one of the 7/7 London bombers, was Afro-Caribbean. Here are some more examples:

In 1986, a 32-year-old Irish woman, pregnant at the time, was about to board an El Al flight from London to Tel Aviv when El Al security agents discovered an explosive device hidden in the false bottom of her bag. The woman’s boyfriend--the father of her unborn child--had hidden the bomb.
In 1987, a 70-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman--neither of whom were Middle Eastern--posed as father and daughter and brought a bomb aboard a Korean Air flight from Baghdad to Thailand. En route to Bangkok, the bomb exploded, killing all on board.

In 1999, men dressed as businessmen (and one dressed as a Catholic priest) turned out to be terrorist hijackers, who forced an Avianca flight to divert to an airstrip in Colombia, where some passengers were held as hostages for more than a year-and-half.

The 2002 Bali terrorists were Indonesian. The Chechnyan terrorists who downed the Russian planes were women. Timothy McVeigh and the Unibomber were Americans. The Basque terrorists are Basque, and Irish terrorists are Irish. Tha Tamil Tigers are Sri Lankan.

And many Muslims are not Arabs. Even worse, almost everyone who is Arab is not a terrorist -- many people who look Arab are not even Muslims. So not only are there an large number of false negatives -- terrorists who don't meet the profile -- but there an enormous number of false positives: innocents that do meet the profile."

Philip France

Dear Yoyo.

You are so terribly wrong.

“you and the delightful Richard both imply that muslim, or even people who look like muslim, security guards have no right to wand non-muslim looking flyers”

As many of my dear friends here have opined, I said “ironic”. Do I, as a middle-aged, white male have any resemblance to those who blew up the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the flight that was downed in a Pennsylvania field? Can you even answer this question honestly?

“race based profiling doesn't work or my moral point, race based profiling is wrong.”
On what basis do you declare that profiling doesn’t work? Does it make sense to make a secondary screening of a feeble 90-year old woman (you may choose the race)? Or is it more likely to yield a suspect in a person wearing traditional Arabic garments who lays his prayer rug in the aisle of a Southwest Airlines flight to chant to Allah? You CAN’T be this stupid, can you?

As for profiling being “wrong”, How else might you postulate law-enforcement’s narrowing suspects from the total population at large (i.e. everyone) to those most likely to have perpetrated a crime? Let me give you a perhaps painful example: A car is broken into on Sacramento’s south side. The perpetrators stole the stereo and the Ipod that was attached to it. An internet search of the I-tunes account reveals that only the hip-hop songs that were stored on the I-Tunes account were saved and that the Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin songs were ignored. Tell me now, oh wise one, where would YOU begin looking? Timothy McVeigh-look-alikes, no doubt.

“Even the racially challenged could work out a way to get through that one as Richard Reid did. Secondly, if you decide all muslims are the enemy (as Richard is blatant in implying) how much credibility do you have world wide when you say that your war is NOT a crusade against a particular religious group? How does that help you keep countries with a muslim population on side.”

Your point is well-stated and articulate. Here is my answer: I, nor those that agree with me, believe that “all” Moslems are the enemy. I believe that there are relatively few (that are the enemy). My question to you is how do you tell the difference (between the benign and/or moderate Moslem and the one who would saw off your head with a rusty kitchen-knife while chanting to Allah?) Would not this suggest that profiling is the precise remedy from which one might ascertain the difference? And aggressive profiling at that?

“I know that many Americans have limited education about geology or geo-politics but surely self presevation would incline you to being less stupid.”

Are you not American? If not, how can you arbitrarily opine about the quality and duration of American education? Please site your examples in drawing this conclusion.

Self-preservation? Whoa! Do you, who suggest that you are so geopolitically enlightened, know that France is being burned to the ground by, “youths”? Are you are aware that the sissies in political power in the U.K. have banned talk-show Superstar Michael Savage from entering Great Britain in order to “balance” their ban against infamous Islamofascist terrorists and murderers? Do you realize that this Neville Cahmberlainesque appeasement led to the murder of 6 million Jews? Of 10 million total (by the Germans alone) and the deaths millions of other brave and/or innocent souls in opposition to this monstrous hegemony?

“I say this as a person who thinks ALL religions are a sign of a deep seated craving for childhood support”

Here we have your ideology revealed. You are a God-denier. This explains your hostility toward facts and truth. This explains why you cannot think critically or logically.

My friend, your brain is unwired to the extent that you cannot perceive and understand truth. You perceive the issues and events before you in the inverse of what they actually are in reality. You have believed lies and deceit for your entire adult life. I pity you. May I offer to you an olive-branch?

I would be delighted to teach you all that I know about God and liberty. In the end, I realize that you may reject my understandings as rubbish and go on your merry way. But hear me out. If you reject what I have learned as nonsense, at the very least you have more to argue about why you consider it nonsense. If you are truly open and honest about learning and the seeking of Truth, you might learn a thing or two about the meaning of life.

By the way, what is the meaning of life? Can you answer this spontaneously? I can.

I welcome your thoughtful consideration of my proposal and I hope that you accept my generous offer. The result might be your eternal life.

Philip, no i am not a christian or any kind of deist however i spent a fairly large period studying all the major religions for their art and philosophy. I have read you bible in the english greek and latin versions, I have also read the koran admittedly not in arabic, jewish texts, the koans of japan, parts of the bagahvavetta etc. You may not have seen my attachments re profiling but I would ask that you have a look. My current position is designing Airports, specifically the airside part, not the building (I am not an architect) but the security and gates and baggagesortation systems. Prior to that I worked in the education of general practitioners. so i have a reasonable grasp of both health care and security issues. In line with further relevations I am not American.

thanks you for you "generous" offer to provide me with your version of the meaning of life, as long as it does not involve endless reiteration of biblical quotes without useful commentary i am pleased to recieve it. i would ask in return that you consider another point of view - mine. so swappsies?

May ask what is your race?

What does the race of the TSA worker have to do with him performing his duties, he could be more "American" than you and I together?

What your saying is self evident. There is no need to elaborate as everyone has basically agreed to this point. With that being said, the use of racial profiling is a tool to be used not abused. There is a clear and obvious distinction and when used in the right hands it is an effective tool. Agree to disagree I guess. The New Century Foundation has archives on assessing profiling, lots of good reading there.

As far as your assesment of my faith. You have it completely backwards. I never mentioned my beliefs(in that post) nor tried to impose them on you. I merely questioned your ability to tell me something is wrong...if it is wrong, is it because it violates your rules of empathy, fairness, and kindness?

Of course these keys are part of my moral compass however one factor i didn't mention but should have is that of intelligence. As sophisticated thinking beings we are able to analyse what is "immoral" and add that to the deciding factors of fairness etc. What annoys me the most is the idea that any particular faith is the source of true morality. Tell that to the Greeks. They used their smarts to work out a true ethical system way before both the christians or the muslims. Every now and them I read apologists sites and their 'morality" is so ethically barren it makes me nauseous. How does the concept of heathens going to an everlasting torture make any ethical sense?

Back to profiling, of course we all do a version of this but those of use who try and analyse our shortfallings try and balance this. In my case, I have a predeliction to find born again christians ignorant however i am trying to judge people by their actions rather than their religious background. For that reason i haven't campaigned against francis o'conner as the head of your NCA body although he makes me distinctly uncomfortable.

BTW, for those that judge people who post without spellcheck I bow my head mea culpa.
