Since removing constitutional rights is all the rage now, I have to ask: when does dislocation from reality become severe enough to justify involuntary commitment? A good study case is NYC's Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who recently uttered a real gem on his weekly radio show. Writes Politicker.com:
"I don't think there's anybody that's defended the Second Amendment as much as I have, Ray," Mr. Bloomberg said to a caller who asked him why he was "so against" the constitutional passage. "I think you have a perfect right to buy weapons and keep them for protection or for sport. We have tried to make sure that you have it."
Well, take that, Wayne LaPierre. You thought you were the point man on gun rights, but you're actually outshone by Little Big Gulp, who has defended the Second Amendment more than "anybody."
I'm not sure what weapons LBG claims to want us to have; maybe the squirt is talking about squirt guns, although he's not fond of those if they look too realistic. Heck, this is a guy who finds even really large drinks too intimidating because he has to look up at the rim (joke credit to Dennis Miller).
I don't like it when crazies get their hands on guns, but it's even more frightening when crazies get their hands on gun laws. LBG's assertion is right up there with fellows behind institution walls who insist they're Napoleon or the Queen of England. Next he'll be telling us he's more pro-life than Mother Teresa, more of a Confederate than Robert E. Lee, and more Christian than the Pope.
It really should be made easier to remove officials from their positions when they show the main warning sign of severe mental instability.
That would be liberalism.

Selwyn,
Good article! In reality, we would have to remove all Democrats (Who are now Marxists)if the issues were solely based on mental stability. For example, Randal Hoven on American Thinker, as he does as well, lays out facts and data clearly refuting the affects of gun control on reducing gun deaths and gun related crimes. Randle's facts are government published information and available to anyone interested in developing an informed opinion on the subject. However, the Bloomberg's of the world SEEM to detach from reality and float off the planet. The informed just shake their heads and write it off as "the crazy uncle syndrome" and chalk it off as harmless nonsense (i.e. Joe Biden). However, to assign Bloomberg's positions, on "mental illness" is to underestimate the cunning evil of the USA Marxists' agenda. Bloomberg is no dummy. He has made a fortune in a data centric industry. He knows how to analyze facts, data and trends and come to correct solutions. He is launching the first phase of indoctrination; "desensitizing". Really, gun control is not about controlling guns to reduce deaths, never was and never will be, just banning Super-sized Sodas is not about a healthy population. (A topic for another day). Just about every wealthy USA Marxist, from celebrities, to the political elites that have children do not enroll them in government schools (including Obama), but place them in private academies with ARMED guards. Likewise in government facilities. The GOP needs to raise illogical propositions of the Marxists like these and "bang" on that drum real hard to expose their real agenda and maybe, just maybe, they will win the narrative on a constitutional issue -- for once.
