Quartermaster

Putin is transforming Russia, and not for the better. He has become more oppressive adn more of a thief. He has murdered those that criticize his regime, and jails those that dare protest his war in Ukraine. Putin's criticism of things like multiculturalism is a vail over what he is doing in Russia. The SU and Russia do not share values, unless Hitler someone we should suddenly respect.

I agree that we can work with Russia as well as Western Europe. Right now the real issue is how NATO nations will react to Trump's more pro- Russian stance. I'm not certain Trump recognizes the loyalty to Ukraine nor the moral necessity of not treating Ukraine like a vanquished enemy. Ukraine probably should hold elections...

Anyway I have long been aware that the US and Europe were embracing Marxist policies that of late has become activism. Russia, however, has not converted completely away from its Communist past. Instead, religion has become acceptable and the movement towards normalizing LGBT lifestyles has been rejected. I guess this was the second variation after making race a more important basis for revolution than class. Russia stopped at about 1995 when courses like the Literature of Colonialism starting being taught in US universities. Russia holds on to aspects of its Communist despite a definite revival of traditional morality. This means the US and Europe will continue to be in conflict with Russia in disputes that will no doubt emerge periodically in various parts of the world. I believe the US and Russia will be able to agree on Ukraine though the Europeans won't like it.

All in all, it's good to have countries like Russia and Hungary that reject the totalitarian end phase of liberal democracy. It's best not to alienate Europe or even Zelensky at this point because they will work to undermine any peace agreement with Russia if they aren't accommodated in some way. I believe Putin is very aware of this and would go so far as to return parts of Ukraine to the countries they belonged to before WWII. Trump maybe just wants a lithium mine.
