To MAGA, We Must Restore Historical Truth, Our Monuments, and Patriotism

Say what you will about the “woke” Left’s recent fall from favor, there’s no denying their profound cultural victories. Just consider the results of a 2023 Gallup poll and a 2020 Democracy Fund voter study group:

• While “four in 10 American adults overall say they are extremely proud to be an American, just a measly 18% of those aged 18 to 34 say the same,” reported the New York Post last year.
• “Three quarters of Gen Z say that the nation requires ‘significant change,’ while two in three agree that ‘America is an unfair society,’” the paper also related.
• “Perhaps worst of all,” the Post continued, “four in 10 Zoomers say that America’s Founding Fathers are better described as villains than heroes.”

My, the irredeemably paranoid could almost think they’ve been brainwashed — almost.

None of this is inexplicable. Psychologist Dr. Kenneth Higbee noted, “If you look for the bad in people, you will surely find it.” Since nations comprise people, this is true of them as well. And, boy, have historians, educators, and entertainers ever found the bad in America. They’ve made up a lot of it, too.

Is this Hawaii 5-No? Some could wonder given that all five Aloha State Supreme Court justices have said no to gun rights — and the U.S. Supreme Court’s finding that they exist. That’s right: We incessantly hear about how President Trump is a Threat to Democracy™, that he’ll “ignore court rulings.” Ironically, though, it’s the leftists on Hawaii’s top court who’ve acted like kings and queens.

Moreover, the court cited the “spirit of Aloha,” a line from a TV show, and the alleged obsolescence of the “founding era’s … understanding of the Constitution” to justify its ruling.

Legendary president Ronald Reagan authored a “revolution,” seeking to shrink government, lower taxes, reduce regulations, and defeat the Soviet menace. He accomplished much governmentally, too, earning the ire of leftists who dubbed him “Ronald Ray-gun.” Yet in truth, he could do little about our cultural trajectory, and American society was notably more “politically correct” (i.e., Woke 1.0) when he left office in 1989 than when he’d entered it in ’81. It’s an old story: You can change who’s at the government’s helm, but who’s at the cultural “government’s” helm — that of academia, the media, and entertainment — remains the same.

(That is, unless you have an autocratic state playing cultural puppeteer.)

This said, one difference between the Reagan and Trump revolutions is that MAGA apparently has greater cultural focus. Despite this, though, and as during Reagan’s time, wokeness marches on. This is illustrated, too, by some recent stories, ones that in the ’80s would’ve been unheard of — or satire.

Imagine the following scenario: A pregnant woman goes into labor while passing your property and, in distress, stumbles onto your lawn. You take notice, offer aid, and EMT arrives and, with time short, she gives birth on the scene. Mother and baby turn out safe and healthy, though, and all’s well that ends well, right? Except for one thing.

You’re then told that because the infant was born on your land, he’s now a member of your household.

Ridiculous, I know. But, of course, this is analogous to the situation in the United States under our “birthright citizenship” standard, supposedly based on the 14th Amendment.

This issue has received much attention recently because President Donald Trump issued an executive order challenging birthright citizenship. The response has been predictable, too, with mainstream media pooh-poohing Trump’s position. They apparently endorse the status quo in which an illegal alien — or a calculating pregnant tourist traveling to our nation right before her due date — will give birth on our soil, and “voila!” The joke is on us: The child is a U.S. citizen.

But did the 14th Amendment’s framers really intend this outcome? It turns out they didn’t. What’s more, the Supreme Court already ruled on the matter — 127 years ago. Unfortunately, this “precedent” has been ignored.

“If something can’t go on, it won’t,” goes the paraphrase of economist Herb Stein. Speaking of which, we often hear about America’s below-replacement-level birth rate. What we don’t hear much about, however, is which Americans aren’t reproducing. And if you guessed that the biggest offenders are our land’s liberals, go to the head of the class.

In fact, the most ardent Republicans apparently have a fertility rate at or above replacement level (2.1 children per woman).

The staunchest Democrats’ rate is down in the demographic-death-spiral range of 1.2.

(The abortion mentality will do that.)

This isn’t the only reason why the liberal-state model would be collapsing. But it is collapsing, says history professor Victor Davis Hanson. In fact, while the mainstream media and Democratic Party are apoplectic over the Trumpian counter-revolution, Hanson states, “they are missing some of the most revolutionary and insidious changes in American society of the last century.”

In the early 1900s, philosopher G.K. Chesterton said he longed for one aspect of a time few pine after. In the Middle Ages, he wrote, people agreed on the things that “really mattered” (in Europe, anyway). Just two or three decades ago, psychologist John Rosemond contrasted his time with Chesterton’s and said that during the latter, “people’s values were explicitly the same” (in the U.S., anyway). Both were essentially correct, too. Just as medieval Europeans were more philosophically united than early-1900s Europeans, so were early-1900s Americans more united than today’s Americans.

And, in fact, some would say the division is reaching critical mass. Just recently, while advocating an immigration moratorium, commentator Tucker Carlson warned that we must “figure out what it is that holds us all together as a nation” so that “50 states [do] not become 50 countries.” Carlson isn’t alone in this sentiment, either, according to a new survey conducted by John Zogby Strategies. It found that not only are many Americans concerned about secession, but also something perhaps unexpected. To wit:

“Lord, what fools these mortals be!” This remark, made by the mischievous sprite Puck in William Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream, was directed at the absurdity of man’s love affairs. And while such folly is timeless, the comment is also relevant to a rather odd love affair perhaps unique to our time.

That is, the West’s affair with an ideology dictating its own culture’s destruction.

Perhaps the latest example of this toxic relationship comes from, ironically, the land that once perhaps did more than any other to spread Western culture: the United Kingdom. And its current effort at grinding itself down is an attack on its greatest writer, Shakespeare himself.

That’s right, it’s not enough that Britain now reportedly has a lower GDP than our poorest state, Mississippi. The country also apparently wants its cultural fortunes to mirror its economic ones.

Conservative partisans online will sometimes, waxing pejorative, call our major liberal political party the “Demoncrats.” Many would assume they’re just speaking loosely, too. Yet Senator Bernie Sanders, the Vermont Independent who caucuses with the Democrats, has now given the critics more ammunition to make their case.

That is, on Friday, Sanders held a rally featuring a song portraying God as a sexual predator who assaults people. Profoundly vulgar, blasphemous, and anti-Christian, it included lyrics such as “Does your god have a big fat d***?”

Reps and Dems Different Species? Most Dems “Believe There Are More Than Two Sexes”

People trying to find common ground between groups sometimes may say, “We’re more alike than we’re different.” Yet this may not be true of Republicans and Democrats — especially not today. Oh, sure, we all have the same tolerances for heat and cold, require oxygen, have survival needs, and are mortal. We also all have beliefs, but this is where profound differences emerge. Just consider a striking example.

Ninety-six percent of Republicans agree with President Donald Trump’s executive order affirming that there are just two sexes.

Among Democrats, however, only 14 percent support the measure. Seventy-seven percent oppose it, leaving some observers aghast that upwards of three-quarters of Democrats believe there are more than two sexes.
